Marius turned pro in 1989, notable victories include six World No. 1’s; Roger Federer, Andy Roddick, Marat Safin, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Marcelo Ríos, Juan Carlos Ferrero and World No. 2 Goran Ivanišević twice in doubles. Marius won 6 tour titles and was an 8 time tour finalist. He reached the Quarter Finals at Wimbledon as well as The Australian Open.
Continuing study during his time as a professional player, Marius majored in Business Psychology and Management. Following his playing career, Marius harnessed his degree to establish his profession as a coach and mentor. His coaching practice incorporates his specialist knowledge in performance psychology, latest developments in business and organisational practice, as well as the experience of successfully partnering players from more than 15 different countries around the world. Today, Marius is an Executive Coach, EMCC Global, Senior Practitioner utilising a whole range of methodologies including Positive Intelligence. He supports CEOs directors and managers to improve their performance with tailored development programmes and managing their work pressures with self-belief, optimism and resilience. He has completed Life Coaching Level 5 Diploma, Emotional Intelligence as well as Managing Mental Health and Stress in the workplace courses. As a coach, Marius is calm, encouraging and empathetic - he possesses exceptional observational and analytical skills to refine areas of potential strength. Marius is highly experienced in managing areas of extreme pressure and stress.
Marius has gained experience of teaching and mentoring sports coaches, players and professionals; serving as a tutor within the Sports Science and Psychology Department at York St. John College. He runs workshops across a wide range of disciplines and professions, including the National Tennis Centre, York City F.C., Harrowells Solicitors and Garbutt & Elliott Accountants.
In 2016, Marius became a partner of Locker Room Power, a philosophy and psychology which shares values and winning formulas that serve players on and off court. Marius is an active member of the Professional Speaking Association (PSA) and over the past two years he has delivered presentations in London, Cape Town, Stellenbosch, Dublin, Leeds and York. Through experience, Marius has learned that sustained high-level performance requires more than just sound technique or expertise. It is his view, that the key to consistent high-level performance under pressure, is heightened self-awareness and sustained conscious self-control. To underpin his coaching, Marius has formulated his ‘Clear Links Model of Self-Belief’ to enhance personal performance. The model builds self-belief to generate a sustained virtuous cycle of confident future performance. |
